402. Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling

(1865-1936)

Among Kipling's many works, he is best known for "Jungle Book"(1894) and "Just So Stories"(1902).

Kipling wrote this note on Hotel Windsor stationary which has been trimmed to 4 1/4"x 4 1/2".

Kipling's holograph message reads:

"Dear Sir: / I am extremely obliged to you for your very handsome & acceptable gift of illustrated volumes on Canada, which I shall keep as a momento of a very pleasant visit / Sincerely / Rudyard Kipling".

Something (probably the date) has been lost by trimming off the bottom of the letter.

The letter has been pasted to a sheet of paper that can be folded to make it into a booklet. A list of some of Kipling's works has been pasted to the letter and his photo and name pasted to the right side of the sheet.

The letter itself is in very good condition but the fragile sheet to which it and Kipling's picture are pasted onto has many edge nicks and the fold has been reinforced with scotch tape on the reverse side.

Price: $375
