57. Lila Lee

Lila Lee

(1901-1973)

Lila was a class of 1922 "WAMPAS Baby Star"

Lila's vaudvillian parents had her dancing and singing on-stage at a very early age.  Her first major movie role was as Valentino's wife in "Blood and Sand" (1922).

Her silent movie roles were typically as a 'nice' girl, but in 'talkies' she played 'toughie' roles that included being a gun moll in "The Unholy Three" (1930).

Lila suffered with TB which ended her career comeback in the late 1930's.  She also had many personal problems which her actor/writer son, Jack Kirkwood Jr., dramatized in the stage play "There Must Be a Pony".

This vintage photo has been trimmed to 6.5"x 8.5".

The photo is dated "Oct.24,1923" in pencil on the reverse.

Some rubbing of the edges but the photo is overall in very good condition.

Lila's signature, especially the "Sincerely", suffers from being poorly blotted but it is in a lighter area and has good contrast.

Price: $ 75
