This fine original pencil portrait is boldly signed “Janet Gaynor” in blue-green ink in the lower right blank corner.

It is also signed and dated “3.18.1934” by the highly skilled portrait artist H. E. Muller.

Janet (a 1926 'Wampas Baby Star') had many unaccredited roles in the mid-1920's but her career really blossomed after receiving Academy Award recognition for Best Actress in 1927.   She soon thereafter became a very popular leading lady and remained so through into the late 1930's.

The Oscar she received for Best Actress in 1927 was the first ever awarded for best actress by the Academy and was given in recognition of her performances in "Seventh Heaven", "Street Angel" and "Sunrise".
